Our Approach

More than childcare — a place where curiosity lives

We follow the HighScope curriculum — where every child plans, explores, and reviews their own discovery every day.

Child-Led Learning

HighScope Plan · Do · Review

Every single day

Children plan what they want to explore, dive in, then review together. No two days are the same.

Natural Materials

Loose parts & real objects

Always real

Pine cones, pebbles, shells, vintage scales, wood slices — open-ended materials that spark a thousand ideas.

Family Partnerships

Key persons & communication

Together

Every child has a Key Person who truly knows them — and builds a relationship with your whole family from day one.

Why Hawthorn Tree

This is more than childcare.
This is childhood.

At Hawthorn Tree, children are active learners in their own story. We give them the space, the materials, and the people to discover who they are. Set within an acre of beautiful grounds, our purpose-built centre gives children freedom to explore, create, and grow every single day.

Three Wonderful Rooms

Find your perfect fit

Three rooms, three names, one ethos — a journey from your baby’s first steps right through to starting school.

Why Choose Us

What makes us different

Staff qualifications

Manager Lydia holds a BA Hons in Education Studies. Every practitioner holds or is working toward Level 3.

Small groups & named Key Persons

Every child has one person who truly knows them — and gets to know your whole family too.

An acre of beautiful grounds

Plans include a vegetable patch, woodland area, sensory garden — and chickens the children help care for.

Robust safeguarding, always

Designated Safeguarding Lead, two Deputy DSLs, and enhanced DBS for every single member of staff.

“The team genuinely know every child. You can see it in how they greet them each morning — it’s not just a job to them.”

Fees & Funding

Simple, transparent pricing

We accept all government funding and keep fees as accessible as possible. As a charity, every penny goes back into the setting.

A voluntary 50p per session covers healthy snacks made by the children. Tax-Free Childcare accepted — the government adds 20p for every 80p you pay.

Every morning our son runs in without looking back. The environment is unlike any nursery we visited — real objects, real care, real relationships.
